You guys, my secretary turns one year old today…and I’m all kinds of emotional about it. If you’re new around here, you might be thinking…what the heck is she talking about? Secretary? That is a DOG! A cute one, though :)
Yes, the rumors are true. My Golden Retriever puppy, Delilah, is my secretary and helps me do all important things in the office. Some of her job duties include: napping, keeping me company while I work, chewing on bones, playing with toys, and being the quality control supervisor for all packages of t-shirts that are mailed out. Her most important job is to help me to remember to close my computer from time to time and take a walk (she’s really good at this one!)
Sometimes, I get so focused on what’s coming up next, that I forget to focus on the “right now.” Does anyone else do this? It’s like I get so excited about the possibilities of what the future could hold that I forget to enjoy the magic of what’s happening right in front of me. I heard a quote earlier this week on a podcast that went something like… “Thinking about the future can cause anxiety. Thinking about the past can cause sadness. But thinking about the ‘right now’ gives us power because that’s the only time we can do anything about anything.” WOW. If that doesn’t put a fire under your butt, I don’t know what does.
Luckily, Delilah keeps me in the “right now.” She wants to play RIGHT NOW. Or she wants to eat RIGHT NOW. She wants to lay on top of me and chew on her bone RIGHT NOW. I’ve learned it’s very hard to argue with a 65 pound dog when she wants to do that last one ;)
It sounds silly, but this is why she’s my “employee of the month” every single month. When my mind starts wandering and worrying, she’s right there to snap me back to reality. Most of the time she has no clue that she’s doing it, because she’s just living life and being Delilah. But without these constant little reminders, my mind wouldn’t be near as clear to do the things I need to do on a daily and weekly basis.
So, please join me in wishing a great, big, loud HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my best four-legged friend and The Farm Story’s “Employee of the Month.” Now if you’ll excuse me, I got her a birthday cake with peanut butter frosting…so I think it’s time she had a piece!
Until next time, friends!
